Tail-Clip RJ 45 Connector - The Smart Choice for On-site Ethernet Wiring
Tail-clip RJ45 connector is highly suggested in field network installation. When setting up the network, you may often encounter the need to use a solid cable to assemble a patch cord and connect the equipment. Most of the Cat.6 or Cat.5e grade cables will accept using a general RJ45 connector and help you complete the task quickly; but if you just use Cat.6A or Cat.7 cable, how to find the right RJ45 connector becomes very important. CRXCabling will introduce how to choose wire for Cat.6A or Cat.7, and how to avoid repeated terminations in-field assembly.
What's the suitable RJ45 connector for my thick cable?
Instead of using the strain relief to fix the cable, the RJ45 connector with a tail clip will hold and fix the cable with the tail clip, and it will give extra room for the fat cable to fit in the RJ45 connector, and provide better clamping force to cable.
Is my current cable fit the RJ connector?
For Cat.6a solid cable, normally the cable is too fat to fit in the normal RJ45 connector, so we’ll recommend using the RJ45 connector with a tail clip. We offer three sizes of wire holes: 1.2, 1.5, and 1.6mm, every model will suit the corresponding wire insulation. You can easily find the insulation size on the cable specification, if not, you may ask for information from the cable supplier.
Why is it important to identify the size of insulation?
It’s quite important to identify the insulation size because we have to make sure the insulation is not moving around when we crimp the contact blades or it may cause disconnection after the crimp. So, it's wise to choose the right model to prevent rework after onsite.
How to do the patch cord with the RJ45 connector with tail-clip?
Crimp the connector takes three steps, follow the steps below to complete the assembly.
- Put the drain wire under the tail clip before crimping
- Use the crimping tool to crimp the connector, and it will also fix the tail clip
Do I need a special RJ45 Crimper for RJ45 with the tail clip?
If the existing hand tool is designed to crimp the strain relief, then it’s not suitable for this RJ45 connector with tail clip because it will damage the RJ45 connector and also the twisted pair, getting worse performance.
Choosing the right RJ45 connector for the Cat.6a cable can be quite challenging sometimes. Providing the cable specs with CRXCabling's sales team, it will help you to find the proper plug model. We’ll also provide plug, boot and tools for your reference.
